How do you create an identity in our world today when you can’t keep a job?

Now’s your chance to find out how 2008 REALLY ended! Check out ‘Mr. Kite’, my newest novel, and discover how all the issues we face today were laid out before us two decades ago.

I wrote this in 2006/2007, but the editing and publishing resources just weren’t the same as they are now. I have many people to thank. To the several friends and family members who read different drafts – your feedback makes me feel warm. But I also want to thank those maniacs who just can’t accept the idea that it’s okay if there’s some equality in the world.

Background

My wife, son and I moved to a new city in 2006. Wagons west, so to speak.

It was time for a new adventure. We were in Toronto and after witnessing a stabbing and getting caught up in the daily grind no the subways, we wanted an opportunity to spread out a little and find ways to reduce our cost of living while also expanding our quality and quantity of life.

We were successful with our move and I maintained a healthy consulting business with contacts in Toronto for a couple of years to follow. Unfortunately, I hooked up with an unscrupulous crowd that saw fit to bring me into their business world only to take my clients and make me feel worthless. Oh yeah … another organization threatened to sue me because I wouldn’t work for them, the supreme act of corporate belligerence and bullying.

Within a short time of living in our new location, I didn’t feel like I’d ever get a job again.

It was wonderful in a way because I gained a lot of opportunities to take care of my son and household while my wife developed her career.

This new environment also set the stage for renewing my vows to the muses and to revisit my love of writing.

I was reading a lot of texts related to observation of the direction in which unbridled capitalism was heading:

There were many more, but I think you get the idea.

These great minds were helping to shape my own ideas about our sense of value and importance in a world that doesn’t value the arts, people’s desire to help one another and simple things like enjoying a family meal together or going on a road trip and singing songs in the car.

A small collection of people were driven to line their pockets with more gold, money and rewards for themselves while the rest of the world was driven to starvation and cutting down forests just to cook meals.

The Reagan years had laid down a path for massive wealth accumulation by the top 1% or so and destroying institutions that might monitor integrity in media, leaving the rest of us to bitch against each other’s unwavering and ill-informed opinions about unsolvable issues.

The rich had shaken the jar of the once-idle red and black ants and now insects were fighting against insects, even though they didn’t know why.

‘Bothsideism’ – opening the floodgates to opinions rather than facts – is the cancer that is devouring us from the inside.

The Plot

As mentioned, the plot revolves around a vital problem: when someone can’t hold a job, but still needs to take care of themselves, where do they turn?

In this fictional world, Mr. Kite takes on contracts to extract information without permission. In other words, he’s a corporate spy, although he’s not a very good one.

Think Jack Black meets Ethan Hunt of Mission Impossible. Somewhat competent, but can’t resist leaving a calling card that draws attention to himself.

As Kite’s career progresses, he screws up a couple of times, but just when he’s about to bail on what he’s doing, someone finally hires him to investigate the workings of a massive corporation called the OmniNet.

He starts to uncover much more about the corporation, its owners and their plans to destabilize the entire global economy for their own personal financial, political and religious gains.

Their target is China, the one country that has quietly checkmated every move America has made over the last century.

China, the one country that has steadfastly denied religious zealotry.

China, the one country that holds all of the cards against so many egos in the West.

Kite unearths important information about their plans, but will he succeed in shutting them down or exposing them in time to collapse their plans?

Why This Story is Relevant Today

China remains in the driver’s seat. They laugh at the threats of certain king-wannabes in the US.

Corporations have taken over the US and many of these organizations have ties to fundamentalist religious organizations.

Will the world survive any more exposure to unchecked greed and ego in the coming days, weeks and years?
